Scott L. Mathless is Of Counsel at the firm. He is admitted to the practice of law in New York State and has also been admitted to the United States District Courts, in both the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Experience

Scott L. Mathless is an experienced, high-exposure trial attorney with multiple personal injury trials to verdict in New York City and suburban New York metro area venues. He has been actively trying cases, primarily for defendants, for well over twenty years. His courtroom victories have been published multiple times in the New York Jury Verdict Reporter and in the New York Law Journal.


Scott was the “HEAT” or high exposure attorney for a nationwide insurance carrier’s house counsel immediately prior to working at O’Connor McGuinness. He was a faculty member of the company’s first nationwide Virtual Trial School in 2020 and the company’s Advanced Trial School, held in Woodland Hills, California, in 2019. He also conducted legal seminars regarding New York State Labor Law for the company and its claims professionals.

Education

Scott L. Mathless graduated in the top 25 percent of his class at Brooklyn Law School, in 1995. Prior to law school, Scott was a 1991 Magna Cum Laude graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.


Scott retired as a police officer from the New York City Police Department and graduated from its academy in 1982. He was assigned to Organized Crime Control Bureau, and Intelligence Division while working in the NYPD.

Mathless is experienced and has been successful in arbitration and mediation of high exposure claims, including numerous wrongful deaths, medical malpractice, personal injury, property damage, “UM/SUM”, and No-Fault claims. He also conducted seminars on Supplemental Uninsured Motorist claims and coverage for claims personal of an insurance carrier at its in-service training.
